P.E

Hi and welcome back to my blog. Today I am blogging about our P.E. This term for P.E we have been doing running/sprinting, relays, jumping and throwing.

For jumping we played a game called Jumping Jenny/Jumping Jimmy. That is when there is a group of people are in a circle and one person is in the middle and they do a jumping pattern. The people on the outside have to imitate the person in the middle. When the person in the middle has finished jumping the call someones name from the outside and they come in the middle. Then you repeat that.
Here is a photo of me jumping.

For running we did start and finishes. You don't slow down to you have passed the line. After we practised handing the battern to the person in front of you. We also had a relay race at the end.
Here is a photo of me running.

For throwing we practised under arm and over arm throws. After we had practised throwing we had a little competition to see who can throw the ball longest. Here is a photo of me throwing.

Giraffe Art

This term for art we got to chose 3 art options. We could chose out of sketching, painting or digital art. I choose painting. For painting we had to paint a giraffe. We got to chose between a realistic giraffe or a multi coloured giraffe. I choose the realistic giraffe. It was very fun to do. The most challenging part of the art would have to be painting around the edges. I think my art turned out pretty good.
Here is a photo of my finished art.

Horses and Zebras

This week for writing we got 3 choices. I chose to write a compare and contrast essay. We had to chose 2 animals. I choose horses and zebras. It was very fun writing the essay.
It took me a long time finding all the information. Here is the Success Criteria

  • Uses scientific vocabulary
  • Revised and edited
  • Accurate paragraphs with subheadings
  • Essay structure followed
  • No personal pronouns
  • Factual
  • Detailed ideas
  • Sentences- different lengths and beginnings

Here is my writing.

Comparing Horses and Zebras.

Well, apart from the size and stripes on zebras there are numerous amount of features the horse and zebra have in common. They also have some very unique qualities. Here is an essay all about their differences and similarities.

Similarities,

Horses and zebras have the same paces. They both walk, trot, canter and gallop. In their everyday life they on walk and trot but when they are being hunted or in work they do have to do much faster moving paces.

Both horses and zebras live in herds. They live in herd with a leader that take the herd to safe places and defended the herd for predators. In their herds they have a mixture of male and female horses/zebras. The leader in the herd is usually a female horse/zebra, but the one who fights to protect their herd is the male/horse/zebra.

Zebras and horses are both herbivores. That means they don’t eat any meat. They only eat grasses, leaves and any grass like things in african desserts. Horses and zebras that are tamed sometimes eat hard feed.

The Horse,
Horses have manes and tails. There mane is horse hair on their neck. There mane comes down over their neck. Horses mane can be plaited, curled and have lots of other things done to their manes. Tails are long and tidy. At the top of the horse's tail the is a bone. That bone is the end of their spine.

Unlike zebras, horses are made to be ridden. They have a wither which holds the saddle in place. The wither is at the end of the horse's neck. It’s like a little bump. Horses can do lots of stuff being ridden and on the ground. When the are being ridden the can play games, do jumping, dressage, go on hack which is going on long rides in the countryside and lots of other things. When doing ground work the get taught manners, tricks and lots of other stuff.
There are over 350 different horse breeds in the world. Horses can be found anywhere in the world. Some horses are wild and roam the countryside and some are tamed and have owners. One wild breed in New Zealand is the Kaimanawas. They run free on the countrysides of New Zealand. There are also musters to tame the Kaimanawas. Here are some breeds of horses all around the world. Welsh ponies, Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods, Shetland ponies and heaps more.

Zebras,
Zebras have excellent hearing. They have large rounded ears. Zebras are wild so they have great use for their hearing. They use their hearing to listen for predators so they don’t get hunted. Zebras can hear up to 1 kilometer.

They are normally found in Africa. Zebras usually live on plains. Different breeds of zebras are found in different places. Zebras can also be found in zoos all around the world. Most zebras are wild.

The zebras is not made to be ridden. They aren’t made to be ridden because they don’t have a wither. A wither is a little bump between the neck and they're back. The wither holds the saddle in place so if they don’t have a wither they can’t be ridden.

Conclusion,

Horses and zebras have a lot in common but they also have heaps of difference.

Maths

This week for maths we have been learning about division, %, kg, decimals, time tables, subtraction, addition and fractions. These past few days we have been learning how to put fraction into decimals and %.

Here are some of the questions.

Pippa and Hanni hosted a party.  In total 32 people attended.  They had allowed each person to get ⅗’s of a pizza.  How many pizzas will they need to buy to feed them? 20 pizzas for the party.

Tui had been saving her pocket money for 9 months.  She earned $17.50 each fortnight.  Of that amount she kept $5 for spending and banked the rest.  She wanted to know how much more she had to save if the phone she wanted to buy was $275. Tui has raised $225. She needs $50 more.

There are 127 lambs and some ewes too. Altogether there are 708 legs.  How many ewes (mother sheep) are there? So there are 508 lamb legs and 200 ewe legs and there are 50 ewes.

PBL Reflection

This week I am sharing my PBL reflection. PBL stands for Project Based Learning. For our PBL we had to chose something related about the Olympics to learn about. I choose Show Jumping. I made a slide all about Show Jumping. After we did our project we had to do a reflection.
Here is my reflection,

OLYMPIC PBL REFLECTION
Project Topic: a slide about Show Jumping.

Here is a screenshot of 2 of my slides.
Slide 4.png
Slide 5.png

Finish these starters:
  • Something I enjoyed about my project was learning more about Show Jumping    because I knew a little bit about it and wanted to learn more.

  • The most challenging thing about my project was putting the notes into interesting sentences because I wanted to make them as interesting as possible for the reader.

  • The main skill I got better at was putting my notes into sentences.  I got better at it by practicing and practicing.

  • Something interesting I learnt was there is a brick wall jump in Show Jumping and there are 10-13 jumps on a Show Jumping course.

  • What I would most like to change about my project would be changing my slide into a QR code of me talking about Show Jumping because it would show more multimedia. Also I would like to manage my time better so I could get my mini Show Jumping arena done.

  • I would like to do my next PBL about horses. I would learn all about the horse. Also I would like to find lots of interesting facts about horses.

Choose three learning muscles and explain how you used them during your PBL.
Noticing-I had to notice when my work didn’t make sense or when there was a spelling mistake.
Managing distractions-I had to manage my distractions when my friend were talking beside me.
Absorption-I was absorbed in my project because I really wanted to finish.

Create a Description of Your Project
This needs to have either video or audio. You can use any app you like. Include a link here. You will embed it as part of your Reflection PBL Blog Post.

Candy Land Continued...

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog. Today I'm going to be sharing the rest of my quick write, Candy Land. The first part of this story is on my blog. Here is the rest of my story.

On the wall I could see a map of Dentist Castle. I grabbed it. I was in the planning room. It said the dining room was on the other side of the castle.

As I set off to find the dining room. I had to dodge lots of tooth guards. When I reached the dining room I hid under the table. I checked my watch, it was 5.00pm.

Tooth guards started to fill the seats at the table. There was one seat left at the end of the table. Suddenly the room fell silent. King Tooth Paste entered the room. Just as King Tooth Paste sat down 3 tooth chefs entered the room with huge plates of food and plonked them down on the table.

While they were waiting for dessert they started talking about how they were going to put their plan into action. King Tooth Paste said "we will meet by the tooth paste waterfall." I made my way to a spare bedroom I saw on the map. Just as I hoped into bed three tooth guards came through the door. Before I could do anything they shut the door and unzipped there costumes. Liske, Ruby and Bella had been sent to Candy Land and then to Dentist Land to help me save Candy Land. They threw me a white tooth costume. "You might need this" Ruby said.

In the morning we woke at 5.00am and ate some chocolate. At 6.00am the sun was rising, so we put our tooth costumes on and went to the tooth paste waterfall. King tooth Paste stayed back at the castle because he had a really bad toothache.

We started to walk down the hill when all the tooth guards stopped. One of the tooth guards said "do we have to go through the woods". Liske quickly said" yes that's the only way, but we will have to stay together or else the happy garden gnomes might get us". "AH! not the garden gnomes" all the tooth guards screamed. Suddenly Bella jumped in-front of all the guards and said "why don't we forget about taking over Candy Land". The tooth guards argued "we have to because King Tooth Paste said to". I said "do you only do what King Tooth Paste tells you to do?" They all said "yes" quietly. "Why don't you ever leave Dentist Land and come to Candy Land" said Ruby. One tooth guard answered "we didn't know if we would be welcome in Candy Land. I said "why don't you come to Candy Land with us". Bella Ruby Liske and I unzipped our white tooth costumes. "Okay" said all the tooth guards happily.

When we got to Candy Land Queen Sugar screamed "AH, tooth guards". "Don't worry Queen Sugar, they have something to say to you" I said. One tooth guard stepped forward and said "Queen Sugar we would like it if you let us stay in Candy Land". "Of course you can" replied Queen Sugar. From that day forward the tooth guards lived happily in Candy Land.

The End.

Dressage

Dressage is used in 3 day events and individual event. It’s got completes moves and you have to have a good bond between you and your horse. In dressage there is no jumping only flat-work. When you do dressage your horse is supposed to have there neck arched a bit.

Candy land!

Hi guys and welcome back to my blog. Today I'm blogging about my quick write. I decided to write a story about candy land. Here is my story.

As I turned around I could not believe my eyes, I was in Candy Land. I knew that because there was a sign that said welcome to Candy Land. I looked around. I could see a lemonade stream and heaps of lollie-pop trees.

I started walking. I stopped under a lollie-pop tree by the lemonade stream. Ow! I said as a toffee apple landed on my head. I was felling hungry so I ate the apple. Suddenly I looked down to see a garden gnome tapping my leg. The gnome said "Victoria you must get to the Cookie Castle before sunset." How do you know my name" I asked."You don't need to know that just get to the castle" shouted the garden gnome.

On my way to the Cookie Castle I couldn't stop thinking about why I am in Candy Land and why I need to go to the cookie castle. When I arrived at the castle the Queen Sugar greeted me and showed me my room. "You will be staying here tonight" said the Queen Sugar. On the bed there was a touch, a map, a backpack, water bottle, and some candy. I quickly put everything in the backpack and went to bed.

In the morning I woke up and went to the kitchen for breakfast. For breakfast I had pancake with maple syrup. As I was walking back to my room I was wondering why all that stuff was on the bed. Outside my bedroom I saw the Queen Sugar waiting for me. She told me I was here because I had to save Candy Land from Dentist Land. Queen Sugar gave me a unicorn and some food. "Good luck Victoria and Candy Land is the only place the Dentist Land hasn't token over" said Queen Sugar. I left Cookie Castle at mid-day.

I pulled out the map to see where I was. I was on the boarder of Candy Land and Dentist Land. I quickly let the unicorn have a drink from the lemonade stream and the we were off again. Out of the corner on my eye I was King Tooth Paste. I quickly hid behind a lollie-pop tree."Phew" I whispered. When King Tooth Paste was gone I quickly started walking again keeping an eye out to see when King Tooth Paste was around. Now I was just outside of Candy Land. It was very dark, so I knew I was close to the dentist castle. As I looked in the distance I could see Dentist Castle on top of a hill. I started making my way up the steep hill.

When I got closer I could see lots of tooth guards surrounding the castle. There was a tooth paste water-fall coming off the side of the castle. I started climbing up the side of the castle wall when I heard someone talking. I quickly looked down. King Tooth Paste was talking to the tooth guards. I heard one tooth guard say we should leave at sunrise. They all agreed and went back to work.

When I reached the top of the castle I saw a wooden door. Slowly I opened it. Inside was a big table with a plan on it. I sneaked inside and had a look at the paper. It was a plan on how to take over Candy Land. Suddenly I heard foot steps coming towards the door. I jumped behind a pot-plant not knowing what to do. As the door opened I held my breath. It was King Tooth Paste. He sat down at the table and wrote something on the paper with the plan on it then left. I slowly step out from behind the pot-plant and ran over to see what King Tooth Paste had written on the plan. While I read the rest of the plan, I knew I had to move fast.
To Be Continued.

Hi guys and welcome back to my blog. I hope you all had an amazing holiday because I did. For my holidays I went to stable hearts every day. On Saturday the 9th of July, the day after school ended mum got a phone call from Anna to see if I could get dropped off at the stables. Within 10 minutes after I had arrived they told me that they had gotten me a pony. I was so excited. At 5.00 pm that evening he arrived. His name is Flash and he is a 20 year old Clydesdale cross. Flash is a bay gelding with a white star. I spent all 16 day of my holiday at the stable.

Here are some photos.

Passion Project

Today I'm going to be sharing my passion project reflection. For my passion project I attempted to sew a blue with white polka dot dress. We had to complete all the questions to our personal best. Some bit were easier than I thought and some bit were harder than I thought. Here is my reflection.

Describe your passion project. What was your learning in it? What were you trying to produce?
I was making a blue with white polka dot dress. I was learning to use a sewing machine and sew a dress that I can wear. I also had to learn about the pattern and then figure out how to read it.

How far did you get with your passion project? What would have helped you to get further?
I got quite far in my passion project. I only had to hem the bottom sew the sides together then sew the dip on. I could of gotten further if people had shared the sewing machine more and not moaned that I was taking a little long, because when I was taking a little while it was because the needle had ever broke or my thread had come out of the needle.

What was the most challenging part of your passion project?
The most challenging bit would have to be reading the pattern at the start because I didn’t really understand it.

What was surprising about your passion project?
It was harder at times than I thought it would be and it was sometimes easy than I thought.

Did you follow your plan well? Why or why not?
I think I did follow my plan well because I didn’t change my project and I did exactly what my diary entry said I was going to do.

Which learning muscles did you use the most while you were working on your passion project? How did you use each one?
I use my perseverance muscle most. I used it when I had done all the pinning on the dress then I had to undo some of it. I also used it when I had accidentally sewn crooked and I had to unpick it.

Which learning muscles did you find difficult to stretch during passion project time?
My collaboration muscle because when we were all up to sewing me and Ruby were trying to set up a schedule but nobody was listening and they moaned that someone else was first on the sewing machine.

Include a picture/embedded link to your passion project

IMG_0879.JPG

If you were allowed to pick a new passion project, what would you choose and why?
I would chose to make up a dressage test then record me doing it then write some instruction on how to do the test. I would chose that because I love riding horses and it would be fun to do and I would learn a dressage test as well.

What was your favourite part of passion projects?

Would have to be learning how to read a pattern and making a dress and using a sewing machine.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Please leave a comment.

Student Reflection.

This week I'm sharing my student reflection. This reflection was going in our half school reports. We had to chose 6 out of 22 questions to answer. We had to do them all to our personal best. We could do it about school stuff or out of school stuff. This is my reflection.

  1. What has been your highlight of the year so far and why? My highlight of the year would be getting asked to join the B.T.R (born to ride). This is my highlight because there are only two other girls in the B.T.R and we get to go on the weekends for free and get to go on rides in the paddock.

  1. What are you like as a learning buddy? I think i’m a good learning buddy because I help them when they are stuck on tasks. I also try and sit by them alot so if they need any help i’m right there to help them. I think I am good at helping them manage their destructions and they also sometimes help me manage my distractions.

  1. What is your favourite subject and why? My favourite subject is art because it is very fun and you have to really concentrate. It is also a very relaxing subject and you can do it at school and out of school.

  1. What is your biggest achievement this year and why? Getting a young leaders badge because not many years 6’s get a young leader badge. Also it means the teachers trust me and being a young leader has a lot of other responsibilities so you have to be able to get my class work done to.

  1. What do you like about getting to chose your own learning? I like being able to chose our own learning tasks because if I feel like doing a reading task and not a maths task, I can do a reading task then come back to my writing.

  1. Are you following the device agreement? Explain? I follow my device agreement because I am always on the right thing at the right time. Also I don’t drop my device or leave it out at morning tea/lunch.
